He threatened the driver and travelers on Line 01NA, Naples-Mondragone with a blade, then was blocked by the operator and taken into custody by the Carabinieri.

Fear, yesterday morning, on board a bus of the local regional public transport company, AIR Campania. The bus, which left at 13.20pm from the Piazzale Tecchio terminal in Naples, had reached Castel Volturno. At the stop near the Pineta Grande emergency room, some passengers boarded. When asked for a ticket, one of them, a foreign citizen aged around 50, flew into a rage: first he emptied his pockets, then he started screaming. The operator asked him to sit down and keep his tone calm. The same thing she tried to do with a traveler, but the man, after having also railed against her, spat in her face.

Things got hot and the driver alerted the police. But while the operator was trying to reassure him, the man pulled out a blade, threatening him, then turned and pointed it at the passenger. It was at that moment that the driver, Ciro Montella, 48 years old, originally from Naples, blocked him by grabbing him from behind. A few seconds later the arrival of the Mondragone Carabinieri, who took the man into custody, later found in possession of a pair of scissors.

Fright for the passengers of Line 01NA, who were accompanied to their destination by another company bus. While the AIR Campania employee, who banged against the cabin door in a tense moment and suffered a hematoma on his head, will have it for seven days.

Also yesterday in Viale Maddalena, in Naples, another AIR Campania bus was targeted by unknown persons who threw some stones, breaking an upper floor window. No injuries were reported.

«There are continuous attacks against our drivers by unscrupulous criminals who put the lives of our employees and passengers at risk. Thats enough. My appeal goes to the institutions to ensure that there is a concrete intervention, which includes greater controls in the areas most at risk. My thanks go to Ciro for the heroic act, which made it possible to avoid the worst", commented the Administrator of AIR Campania, Anthony Acconcia.
